Chunghie Lee, Belger Installation

Chunghie Lee is a visual artist whose study of Bojagi, a Korean textile tradition, has inspired her to create wall pieces, sculptures, and wearable works for more than two decades. She has exhibited in more than fifteen countries throughout the world and has had solo shows and presented workshops in in the US, the UK, France, Romania, Australia, Finland, and Lithuania. Her work is represented in permanent collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; the Museum of Arts and Design, New York; and other prestigious institutions.

Chunghie has lectured in Korea and abroad, including at Hongik University in Seoul; Evtek Institute of Art and Design, Finland; and the Rhode Island School of Design, where she was a Fulbright Exchange Scholar in 1994. Articles on her work have appeared in Surface Design Journal, American Craft, Ornament, TextileETN Forum (Germany), Monthly Crafts Magazine (Korea), and Textile Fibre (Australia). She received her BFA and MFA degrees from Hongik University.

Chunghie continues to disseminate knowledge of Bojagi through teaching, mentoring and assistance to artists and students from various backgrounds. She is the founder and director of the International Korea Bojagi Forum (KBF: www.koreabojagiforum.com), an international biennial conference held in Korea since 2012. In 2016 and 2018, Chunghie invited members of TSGNY to participate in the forum as exhibiting artists.
