Members' Works

Laura Splan is an artist and lecturer whose work explores intersections of art, science, technology and craft. Her conceptually based projects examine the material manifestations of our cultural ambivalence towards the human body with a range of traditional and new media techniques. She often uses found objects and appropriated sources to explore socially constructed perceptions of order and disorder, normal and aberrant. Much of her work is inspired by experimentation with materials and processes (blood, cosmetic facial peel, digital fabrication), which she mines for their narrative implications and untapped potentials.

Splan's work has been included in solo and group exhibitions at Museum of Art & Design (New York, NY), Museum of Contemporary Craft (Portland, OR), Neuberger Museum of Art (Purchase, NY) and Beall Center for Art + Technology (Irvine, CA).

The 6pm Pre-Meeting Program: What Book Inspires You?

From where has your creative soul been nourished?  Drink in an evening of resources that have furthered “The Artist’s Way” as shared by your artistic colleagues.

*Bring in a book(s) and offer your SHORT take on how it inspired you or helped you make a positive shift;

*Any topic ok:  possible examples:  exhibition catalogues, poetry, art techniques; spiritual paths; nature; science; biographies/interviews, etc….

So, stoke your creative juice pool with a collection of new portals for inspiration, waiting to be discovered by you in this coming New Year….

If you have an idea or suggestion for an upcoming 6:00pm Pre-Meeting Program, contact Joan Diamond to discuss your presentation and available dates.
