A Collaborative Exhibition of TSGNY members and members of the Korean Bojagi/Embroidery Community
The Korea Bojagi Forum has invited us to collaborate on an exhibition to be shown at the 2020 KBF in Seoul, South Korea. This year’s exhibition will be at the Ewha Art Center, Ewha Women’s University, Seoul.
The exhibition will be curated by Professor Cha, Youngsoon, Fiber Arts Department, Ewha Women’s University, and Patricia Malarcher, independent writer and former Editor, Surface Design Journal.
The exhibition will run from May 12 – May 19, 2020.
Korean artists will show hand-embroidered works in both traditional and more contemporary styles. TSGNY members will show Bojagi-inspired contemporary fiber works. (see below for clarification)
Subject – “In the Bojagi Spirit”
“In the Bojagi Spirit” works must fall into at least one of three categories:
1) Patchwork or pieced construction
2) Made of upcycled or recycled materials, or saved scraps
3) Expression of a wish for a positive outcome — e.g., longevity, prosperity, good health, long marriage, etc.
Entry Guidelines / Eligible Works
Artists must be FULL members of TSGNY.
All work must be in the bojagi spirit— See three categories above.
Entries must be original artwork completed within the last 5 years.
Works must be 24” – 39” (60cm -100cm) in width
Length – variable. Works should be square or vertically rectangular. Work can be suspended if viewable on front and back and if appropriate means of hanging are provided. Minimum length of work is 24” (60cm)
Works must be foldable or rollable
Works should NOT be framed or mounted on stretched canvas, wood, or any other rigid surfaces.
Works to be suspended should be viewable/finished on both the front and back sides.
There is no color limitation.
Submissions
You must submit two to three works (not one only).
One work will be selected for inclusion in the exhibition.
Artists must submit digital images of 2 – 3 original works for a non-refundable fee of $50 by check ($53 if paid by credit card). This fee will cover the cost of a copy of the KBF catalog and return shipping.
Payment method should be indicated on the entry form.
Digital images of works submitted will be due February 15th.
Works must be in Korea by April 15, allow at least one week for delivery
Delivery of Work
The artists are responsible for shipping their own work to South Korea.
Detailed instructions will be sent to all entrants.
Works must be shipped via USPS using Express Mail International service to arrive in Seoul no later than April 15, 2020. Use a strong cardboard shipping box (no wood) that can also be used for return shipping.
Submission of Digital Images
Submit one overall digital image of each artwork. Digital images must be saved as a high quality JPEG at 300 dpi, with at least 1500 pixels on longest side, not larger than 5MB.
Files should be labeled with artist’s name and title of work (Lastname_Firstname_Title-of-work.jpeg)

A high-quality JPEG headshot at 300 dpi, 900 x 1200 pixels.
Images should be sent as an attachment, do not insert or embed them.
An artist statement discussing the spirit of bojagi in the work, no longer than 200 words.
